Unchanging Points of Light

Prior to the emergence of navigational technology, the captain of a ship relied on unchanging points of light in the nights sky to navigate his vessel in the darkness. These celestial objects were so well known and behaved so precisely that you could trust your life, your vessel, and all of it’s valuable contents to their guidance. You still can, if you understand them well enough.

Over the last 200-300 years our world has abandoned the idea that there are eternal, reliable, and absolute principles or reference points from which human beings can gain the power and the confidence to navigate through a very dark world. In essence, we are lost. It seems that we have also lost our ability to observe, critically think, and apply the laws of logic to what we see. Our lostness and the resulting error is increasing at a faster and faster rate as the pace of change in our modern world is exceeding human capacity to adapt.

Besides being lost, we are just plain confused about how we got here.

My hope in this book is to offer you the opportunity to take a new and perhaps unique look at the foundational concepts of truth, life, love, identity, sexuality, money, power, brokenness, belief, and light. Further, I hope that you consider what role they play in your life individually and in our culture collectively. If you are willing to experience the tension of staying in these questions, perhaps you can decide whether you are to conform yourself and your views to these unchanging points of light, or whether they are to conform themselves to you and what is attractive to you.

In my view, all of us are just trying to find our way through our life on this planet. Maybe we should work harder on doing this together, regardless of how different each of us is. If together we are attempting to guide our modern day vessels by these unchanging points of light, then I believe that we have a chance.
